Position Summary:
Provide efficient project management leadership and oversight of telecommunications projects. Under minimal supervision, the project manager plans, manages, supports, and executes large scale and/or complex telecom projects across the campus, while promoting the understanding of Project Management principles across the IT organization. The project manager is responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously to ensure telecom designs and installations are compliant, secure, within budget, and satisfy the needs of the University. The project manager is responsible for all aspects of the planning, development, and implementation of assigned projects from original concept through final implementation; providing a single point of contact for all constituents, and serving as the IT/telecom project lead/liaison. Routine tasks include reviewing specifications, blueprints or other plans to ensure telecom designs are technically correct and compliant with regulations, codes and internal/industry standards. Responsibilities include conducting job site surveys or construction site visits; interacting with contractors, engineers, and architects; consulting with IT operations managers to identify needs for telecommunications, network infrastructure, and Audio Visual systems; and writing bid documents as necessary. Additionally, the project manager will develop detailed work plans and schedules; provide telecom budget estimates; track project expenditures and deliverables, and follow policies and procedures to support the project and manage risks based on an understanding of organizational strategy and goals. This position may also perform other duties that are IT/telecom operational in nature based on the specific skills and experience of the individual and/or needs of the organization. Minimum Qualifications:
Level II - High School diploma or equivalent plus eight (8) years' experience and certification as a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD); OR a Bachelor's Degree in discipline appropriate to position plus 4 years of experience. Level III - Bachelor's degree in discipline appropriate to position plus (7) years' experience. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of significant assignments. Has well-developed leadership qualities and
demonstrated cross-functional project management experience.
