Nursing Faculty Member
Carroll Community College seeks a Nursing Faculty Member (Medical-Surgical).
Job Summary: The faculty member’s primary responsibility will be planning and making available appropriate study materials; conducting educationally valuable activities in the classroom; making assignments of student work; and evaluating and grading student progress. This position reports to the Chair, Allied Health, with an anticipated start date during the FALL 2019 semester.
Essential Job Functions:
- Teaching the equivalent of 30 teaching load hours over the academic year
- Administering appropriate examinations, including final examination during final examination week; Maintaining grade book
- Scheduling and posting a minimum of five hours per week of office hours
- Providing educational advisement to students, including directing those in need of assistance to appropriate laboratories, clinics, or counselors
- Cooperating with the Library staff and division chair to assure adequate library and materials are available for each class
- Assisting in the curricular and staff development necessary to create new learning opportunities for students or to maintain the viability of current offerings
- Attending divisional meetings, general faculty meetings and college-wide meetings as required
- Using a variety of teaching methods in order to meet the learning needs of the individual students;
- Assisting with development of philosophy, objectives and policies of the program
- Preparing course outlines and lesson plans in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the program, translating the objectives into expected student behaviors
- Assisting with admission of students; Contribute to student retention and completion initiatives
- Assisting with evaluation of the program
- Supporting the teaching team contributing to orientation of new faculty, communicating between and among team members and cooperating in implementing the course and related activities to maintain program integrity
- Serving on appropriate college committees; Attending required meetings/trainings
- Follow policies as outlined in the Faculty Handbook
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements To Perform Work: Master’s degree in Nursing (or waiver from the Maryland Board of Nursing), current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Maryland or compact state, and two years clinical experience as an RN within the last five years. Prior college teaching experience preferred. Knowledge, skills and abilities required include knowledge of current clinical practice and evidence-based nursing, knowledge of basic principles of education, skill in communicating with students and other faculty members, skill in manipulating equipment, ability to plan and organize lab sessions for students in various nursing courses, and experience using technology in education. Physical Demands: This work is normally light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate.
- Visual Acuity/ability to perceive or detect surroundings.
- Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand and convey subject matter.
- Repetitive motion (i.e. keyboarding)
- Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another.
- Bend/lift.
Work Environment: College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common areas, offices, campus environments and clinical sites. Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations; and observance of traffic laws when/if driving a College vehicle.
