JOB OBJECTIVE: Under the general supervision of the Code Administrator performs technical duties in enforcement of adopted construction codes to insure public health and safety.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Reviews building plans, calculations, specifications, and other required documents for
proposed structures.
- Inspects new buildings, additions to and alterations of existing buildings, etc. for compliance with currently adopted editions of the International Family of Codes. 3. Inspects building projects to insure construction proceeds in accordance with plans
approved with the building permit.
- Reads and interprets adopted codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions,
specifications as related to projects.
- Answers questions and supplies technical information to subordinates.
- Clearly notifies responsible party of code violations with written report.
- Works with fellow employees on technical issues and code compliance to ensure
consistency in the code enforcement process.
- Prepares daily reports.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Notifies Code Administrator of unusual situations found during inspections. Testifies in court involving related duties. Performs other related duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the adopted codes and regulations governing building construction, alteration, repair, etc.
Knowledge of building inspection practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of building construction methods, practices and materials.
Ability to comprehend and work from plans, drawings, blueprints and diagrams. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, other departments, contractors, architects, engineers, etc. and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively and prepare concise oral and written reports. Ability to deal with the public in a professional, tactful and courteous manner. Knowledge of computer applications and word processing.
Knowledge in floodplain management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
One (1) year work experience in inspection, construction trades, building design or any equivalent combinations of education and experience.
REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for duration of employment in this position.
SALARY RANGE: $41,000.00 - $46,000.00 annually
