Class Specification: Public Information Officer

Job Objective: 

The principle function of this position is the proactive promotion of the accomplishments, activities, and resources of Harrison County.

Knowledge and skills required for this position are usually, but not always, acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Radio, Television and Broadcasting, Marketing, Public Administration, Business Communication, Advertising, or a related area; at least four (4) years of experience in public relations, communications, advertising, marketing, or a related area; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Directs the development of communication materials, including brochures, flyers, press releases, information pamphlets, media announcements, public presentation materials, and other promotional/public information materials needed to inform members of the public and to present the position and views of County management and the Board of Supervisors; ensures distribution of produced materials.

Determines the best method and media suitable to properly inform concerned and affected citizens, and to promote awareness and understanding of County programs and services.

Availability 24/7 for emergency incidents to serve as lead spokesperson for the Board of Supervisors and the County Emergency Operations Team; in addition, availability will be required in non-traditional work hours for presence at various special events and meetings.

Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000
