THE SEARCH

The Minnesota Orchestra (“the Orchestra”), one of the nation’s top symphonic ensembles, seeks a seasoned human resources leader and diversity, equity, and inclusion advocate to serve as the organization’s Vice President of People and Culture (“vice president”). Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President of People and Culture will play a major role in a notably strong leadership team, led by President and CEO Michelle Miller Burns, and will join a collaborative and innovative organization at the vanguard of antiracist programming in the national orchestral context.

In this key leadership role, the Vice President of People and Culture will be responsible for delivering a broad range of consultative support across the organization. The vice president will focus on both the strategic planning and tactical execution of initiatives related to talent acquisition, talent management, organization development, employee relations for union and non-union employees, DEI and anti-racist initiatives, compensation and benefits planning, and compliance.

Charged with setting both the direction of the Orchestra’s human resources and diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy, the next vice president will work to align the Minnesota Orchestra community, including staff, musicians, and board of directors, around a shared vision and common understanding of DEI and anti-racism, while meaningfully engaging in and supporting the organization’s work already underway. The next vice president will bring an in-depth knowledge of best practices within human resources, a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, and a commitment to the mission of the Minnesota Orchestra to “enrich, inspire and serve” its community as an enduring symphony orchestra.

Recently, the Orchestra adopted a 2022-2025 strategic plan that sets ambitious organizational goals around audience development, diverse artistic programming, staff hiring and retention, and new and continued anti- racist learning projects. The next vice president will be a critical partner in many of these endeavors as the Orchestra looks forward to its future with great excitement and optimism.
