ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE BOARD
The New York City campaign Finance Board is a nonpartisan, independent city agency that enhances the role of New York City residents in elections. We are dedicated to making our local democracy more open, transparent, and equitable. We eliminate barriers to participation by providing access to the information and resources New Yorkers need to vote or run for office and reduce the corrupting influence of money in politics by enhancing the impact of New Yorkers’ small-dollar contributions. ABOUT THE UNIT/DIVISION
Candidate Guidance and Policy (CGP) includes the Candidate Services, Candidate Policy & Communications, and Document Processing units. Together, these units help candidates, and their campaign staff navigate the Campaign Finance Program through trainings, published guidance materials, and one-on-one support. We also administer, process, and track candidate compliance with public funds eligibility requirements such as the Certification deadline, Conflicts of Interest Board (COIB) financial disclosure and the submission of Statements of Need and Active Candidacy. We obtain and maintain candidate ballot status; review and process candidate-related documentation; and work with other CFB units to set and document candidate-related policies, procedures, and deadlines.
- Review and process candidate submissions related to statutory compliance and eligibility to receive public funds.
- Draft, review, or provide assistance with drafting and reviewing candidate-facing guidance materials.
- Perform legal and factual research, particularly regarding city and state campaign finance and election law, CFB Board Rules, and election calendars.
- Perform routine and requested data analyses and prepare high-level briefings on topics related to financial disclosure and candidate activity; perform specialized data analyses as assigned, including data visualizations.
- Proofread, edit, format, and “Blue Book” legal documents.
- Prepare and maintain internal calendars and assist with comprehensive election cycle timelines.
- Provide support for reviewing and improving the clarity and consistency of candidate-related policies, procedures, forms, notifications, and instructions.
- Assist with maintaining and updating candidate-facing website content.
- Review candidate forms, instructions, and notifications for required updates.
- Help maintain Knowledge Management database of internal policies and procedures.
- Assist with acquiring, analyzing, and processing ballot status information from the New York City Board of Elections, including attending BOE public meetings and hearings as requested.
- Assist with unit-led internal information sessions and presentations.
- Manage political committee registration process, draft business requirements and test new features, assist registrants via phone and email.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, proofreading, and editing skills. Must be detail oriented.
- Excellent analytical skills, reasoning abilities, problem solving skills, and sound judgment.
- Strong data analysis skills, including data visualization, data download and cleaning/filtering, and ability to present written and verbal conclusions.
- Ability to set/comply with deadlines, to work accurately and efficiently, and to complete multifaceted projects along with day-to-day activities.
- Must be a team player, willing to support inter-departmental and inter-agency relationships.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information and documents.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and one year’s work or equivalent internship experience.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro, high expertise in Excel.
- Previous experience as a paralegal, data analyst, or editor preferred.
- Background or interest in politics, policy, and government a plus.
