Director Mental Health Safety & Environmental Services
The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is currently recruiting for the position of Director Mental Health Safety & Environmental Services, M-2, located in the Administrative Support Services Group (ASSG), Environmental Health and Safety Unit in Albany, New York. This position serves as the ASSG Liaison for the statewide safety departments within the Office of Mental Health’s 22 psychiatric centers and 2 research facilities.
This position addresses the day-to-day operational requirements and needs of the entire Safety and Security organization. Responsibilities include: planning, administering, or conducting Statewide mandated Peace Officer training and Defensive Tactics training; evaluating instructors providing training and selecting safety staff to attend instructor training; providing oversight of protocols and education programs to ensure safe, secure, and therapeutic environment in all psychiatric centers; developing statewide safety protocols and policies regarding enforcement of safety and security services; participating in the design of the fire Safety and Security Standards and coordinate Life Safety and
Security initiatives to be implemented at all psychiatric centers; representing ASSG on agency and combined Agency/Union committees related to Security and Health and Safety initiatives and attending statewide OMH Labor-Management meetings as needed; and overseeing building site inspection and compliance program with applicable codes and regulations.
The salary range for this unique position is $85,244 to $107,751. Generous benefit package includes paid vacation leave, holidays, and sick leave as well as medical, prescription, dental, and vision care benefits. Membership in the New York State and Local Employees’ Retirement System is also included.
Qualifications: This is a non-competitive, policy influencing position which serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. To be eligible for appointment, candidates must have:
A.) A bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the administration of or the supervising or directing of a comprehensive police, fire, safety, security or life-safety training program in a hospital or state operated residential treatment and care setting, of which two (2) years must have been in a supervisory/managerial capacity with responsibility for directing the program. OR
B.) Nine (9) years of experience as outlined in “A”, of which two (2) years must have been in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
