Transporting Patients:
- Transports patients from nursing units to the holding preanesthesia unit ( PAU )
- Assist the circulating nurse to transport patients from PAU to the O.R
- Transports specimens to the lab and delivers blood products from the blood bank to the O.R. according to established policies and procedures
- Transports sterilized trays, instruments and equipment to assigned OR rooms as needed
- Inspecting sterile package integrity, storage conditions and equipment for possible damage that would decrease its ability to perform needed functions
- Transports supplies and bio hazard trash to and from the appropriate area designed for radioactive contamination
- Assists in cleaning assigned OR rooms during the turn over process
- Mopping floor, and/or wiping down surgical bed, equipment, including trash removal
- Assists OR team in preparing for surgical cases
- Opens sterile supplies including disposables and surgical trays pertinent to OR procedure
- Making O.R. bed
- Positioning patient, holding extremities, setting up equipment to increase OR room utilization
- Help limit traffic in and out of O.R. rooms to cut down potential contamination of sterile environment.
- Performs preoperative shave preps as needed, according to policy and procedure.
- Attends required in-services, annual review and educational programs/training
- Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines
- Complies with applicable Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues
- High School graduate or equivalent required
- American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification at HCP Level; required
- Three months of orientation/training depending on experience
- Orientation/training will include aseptic techniques, safety, transporting patients, shave preps, OR process, knowledge of supplies and trays, Surgical procedures, environmental process and standard precautions
- Good written and verbal communication required
- Interaction with a patient population of all ages ranging from neonates to geriatrics, required
