Omega Protein, Inc. (Moss Point, MS). 4 openings. Temporary, Full time job, from 1/21/2020 - 10/21/2020. Minimum 35 hours per week.
Shift: 7 am-3:30 pm., Mondays-Fridays.
Duties:
- Handle nets that are approximately 1300 ft long by 100 ft wide.
- Climb step ladder up to a steel platform on truck cab to operate hand controls.
- Hydraulic hand-controlled levers control the power block which retrieves net from the field/boat.
- Spread pull net in a field or in the net shed (with a crew of 9-10).
- Pulling force is about 60-70 lbs. Assist mending holes in a standing position with a plastic 8" needle & nylon thread.
- Sew & then knot thread each bar.
- May wear foul weather gear & gloves if net has been dipped recently.
- Use "needle" to sew new netting onto rope pulled & secured in long warehouses.
- Tie net by hand 1 fathom (6ft) apart & then sew along the length of net-using hydraulic lift to pull in additional net.
- Lift containers of floats & rope that can weigh up to 50lbs to work area.
- Secure floats & leads onto ropes 2 feet apart (spools of rope 54lbs).
- Work is done in standing position, generally waist level but ropes, are adjustable.
- Climb vertical ladder to load the asphalt & mineral spirits tank.
Job requires 1-month previous net mending experience. Background check & post-offer, pre/post-employment drug screening will be carried out equally between US & H2B workers. Observing safety procedures & the proper use of safety devices is a condition of employment.
Wage: $16.13 per hour No Overtime. A single workweek will be used to compute wages due. Wages paid bi-weekly. All deductions from a worker's paycheck required by law will be made. Employers will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies, equipment to perform the job. Employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three-fourths of workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period. Employer will pay upfront for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, & other related fees, including those mandated by the government (excluding passport fees). Ground transportation to the place of employment will be provided by the employer at no cost to the worker; Ground expenses, subsistence costs will be reimbursed to the worker on 1st paycheck. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of $12.46 per day during travel to a maximum of $55.00 per day with receipts. If worker does not complete at least 1/2 of employment period, the worker is expected to refund the employer. Return transportation will be provided if the worker completes the employment period or is dismissed early by the employer. The housing may be available at no cost for any worker that lives more than 40 miles away from the plant. Housing is optional.
