Position Description: Full-time faculty position (nine-month academic appointment and summer stipend) with tenure at the full professor rank.

 

Date of expected hire: July 1, 2024 (start date negotiable).

 

Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts invites applications for the position of associate dean for academic affairs. This leadership position works directly and collaboratively with the dean, two associate deans, and the director of budget and operations in support of faculty and staff in seven academic units: School of Art, Department of Creative Arts Therapy, Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies, School of Design, Department of Drama, Department of Film and Media Arts, and the Setnor School of Music.

 

We seek a dynamic leader with a record of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace who will support the implementation of the college’s strategic mission and vision through measurable actions. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of curriculum development and program assessment strategies and an unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. We welcome a candidate with a strong understanding of trends and developments in higher education and creative professions combined with outstanding interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Supporting all aspects of faculty life, the associate dean assists the dean in faculty hiring and mentoring through promotion and tenure, monitoring course loads, and academic feasibility studies. The associate dean for academic affairs represents the college on University-wide committees.

 

Candidates must have earned a terminal degree with a record of high-quality creative activity and scholarship commensurate with appointment as full professor.
