Associate Director of Development, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Discovery Partners Institute
The University of Illinois Foundation is the official fundraising and private gift-receiving organization of the University of Illinois. It works closely with alumni and friends, faculty and staff, corporations and foundations, as well as campus development professionals to create fundraising programs and opportunities that benefit the University.
This position serves as a major gifts fundraiser with corporations and foundations for the Discovery Partners Institute (DPI; dpi.uillinois.edu), a joint education, research and innovation institute led by the University of Illinois System, its three universities and partners. DPI’s mission is to establish collaborative partnerships that address twenty-first century societal grand challenges, promote entrepreneurship, and educate the next-generation workforce, which will grow the state’s economy. DPI is a member of the Illinois Innovation Network (IIN), which drives innovation along with economic and workforce development across Illinois. This position is located in Chicago.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop major gift fundraising strategies for corporations and foundations to support the research and education programs at DPI in alignment with the DPI business plan.
- Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit a portfolio of prospective donors for major gifts ($25,000+) for DPI with a focus on six-figure gifts and above.
- Work in close collaboration with the Director of External Engagement and Partnerships at DPI, other DPI leadership (including the DPI Director and Directors of Administration, and Academic Affairs), and corporate relations and foundation relations staff at the Universities of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield to ensure coordinated efforts for maximum long-term support of the University as a whole and DPI specifically.
- Manage a portfolio of major gift and qualifications plans primarily with organizational prospects and, after the first full year on the job, successfully close a minimum of 12 major gifts per year.
- Work with the Director of Development for DPI and the Director of Stewardship, Principal Gifts and stewardship colleagues at each of the three System universities, to develop and manage stewardship plans for major donors of all types to DPI.
- Travel as needed in support of major gift development responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of three years successful corporate and/or foundation relations or related career experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Willingness to travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree preferred
- Experience in research Universities or other large, complex organizations
